BCM Carbine Video

April 30, 2012

This is a well produced video of the history of the carbine rifle used in the US Military. It shows off some of BCM’s products such as their new Mid-length gas system model and a mysterious BCM Comp which can be seen in the video. Travis Haley makes a welcomed appearance to make it even more exceptional. Bravo to BCM for some fine marketing material.

New PWS Triad Flash Suppressor

March 1, 2011

Primary Weapons Systems has released a new flash suppressor called the Triad. The Triad is designated by the ATF as a flash suppressor, but its unique design reduces muzzle flip giving some characteristics of a compensator. There are currently two Triad models to accommodate 5.56 and 7.62 firearms. Both models come with the appropriate shim sets to position the muzzle device correctly on your pistol or rifle.

Muzzle brakes, compensators and flash suppressors are the jewelry of the tactical rifle world. Constantly companies are coming up with quality new products to tempt the public. Primary Weapons Systems is known for their quality brakes and flash suppressors and back their products with a money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied. The MSRP of the Triad flash suppressor is an amazingly low $59.95 for the 5.56 model and $69.95 for the 7.62 model. It will be interesting to see how the Triad stands up against other new flash suppressor/brake combos like the AAC BrakeOut and the Battle Comp 1.0 and 2.0, but with the low price and money back guarantee it’s hard to not give the Triad a try.

Cheers to the Gunblog for the post.

BattleComp 1.5: Test and Review

February 11, 2011

BattleComp Enterprises has introduced a great new compensator for 5.56mm AR platform rifle systems.

The BattleComp™ 1.5 is specifically designed for individuals wanting to pin their 14.5″ barrels to meet the 16″ minimum federal requirement. A set screw hole is already tapped into the unit for easy installation.

The test rifle used for this evaluation is as follows:

  • Larue Stealth upper and lower receiver
  • Schmidt & Bender 1.1-4 X 24 #7 short dot scope
  • Geissele SSA fire control group
  • Young Manufacturing national match M16 bolt carrier group
  • Noveske Recon 16″ NM mod 0 stainless 1/7 polygonal barrel
  • Daniel Defense Lite 12.0 rail
  • (Test ammunition used was PMC X-TAC 5.56mm 62gr. M855)

The test was conducted at an outdoor range at various CQB ranges and up to 100 yards. Temperature was 44˚F and the wind was calm from the NW. This test was done in comparison to a standard A2 compensator.

Test 1: rifle was fired off hand at a target 20 yards from the shooter. A rapid fire string of 10 rounds was fired at the target and all hit within 3-4″ inches from the point of aim; each shot maintained optimum sight picture without excessive recoil or noise.

Test 2: rifle was fired at a target 50 yards away using a bipod rest on a shooting bench. 20 rounds were fired in a controlled manner and the hits grouped 1″.

Test 3: rifle was fired at a target 100 yards away using a bipod rest on a shooting bench. 20 rounds were fired in a rapid manner and the hits grouped 1.75-4″ from the point of aim. This was an impressive rapid-fire group!

Conclusion: The BC 1.5 is a nice compromise between a competition muzzle brake and the standard A2 compensator. It noticeably reduced muzzle rise while maintaing the sound levels of an A2 compensator. In fact, it felt similar to the Knights Armament Triple Tap we previously tested, but without the hefty price. Battle Comp Enterprises has found the delicate compromise between taming muzzle rise while keeping muzzle report at a minimum compared to some other muzzle devices currently on the market.

Our only gripe about the design is that it was a pain to clean due to the enclosed nature of the BC 1.5. Otherwise, BattelComp Enterprises has created a compensator with the tactical operator in mind.

T.A.G. would like to thank the crew at BattleComp for sending us this test unit. We’ve seen first hand that you’re building a quality and affordable product and we wish you great success. Check out BattleComp Enterprises at:
