Surefire continues to impress with its innovative designs and increasingly bright LED bulbs. Announced at Shot Show 2011, the new MVG-1 Weapon Light boasts a 2000 lumen, high-output led bulb and deep smooth reflector set in an all aluminum housing. The MVG-1′s grip is designed with the shooter in mind. It offers comfortable ergonomics and a high degree of control. The 2000 lumen beam is useful for clearing large rooms or warehouses, engaging a distant threat or simply to gain the advantage by shutting off an opponent’s vision. If you’ve had the pleasure of using Surefire’s 400 or 500 lumen handheld lights, imagine five times the brightness neatly strapped to your primary weapon.

The light allows its user three functions: High-Output, Low-Output, and Strobe. High-output is activated by a dedicated rear center button. Because of the draw the high-output setting will have on the batteries, Surefire has included a 10 lumen low-output feature that can be used for navigation or examining materials. The press-for-momentary-on low-output button is found on the left side of the grip. The strobe feature is powerful, highly disorienting and is activated by pressing a third dedicated button on the grip’s right side.

Initially upon hearing about the release of the MVG-1, our primary concern was how often we’d be replacing expensive CR123A batteries while using the high-output feature. Surefire thought of that too and curbed our concerns by making the light rechargeable. You can connect the new MVG-1 to your favorite weapon using Surefire’s Swing-Lever Mount which provides a solid attachment, even to out-of-spec rails.
