Ghost Recon Alpha: Movie Short

May 15, 2012

In preparation for the release of UbiSoft’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier, this teaser film short was made. It is a very well produced and written movie and at 23 minutes it is a pretty good size for a short film. By the end of it, I was wishing they made a full 2 hour feature film! Like most future soldier films it does have some cheesy future tech stuff. Although, I am sure that technology will eventually have the ability to make some of the items you will see in the movie and most likely the game, it is still funny to see how they are implemented by the game designers. One of my favorite items shown in the film is the Harry Potter style “invisibility” cloak that looks as though their first mission was to Hogwarts to steal it. Other laughable tidbits are the Metal Gear style robot and the “futuristic” US Special Forces weapons like the H&K G36c, the heavily modified and oversized Israeli Tavor bullpup, and my favorite: the Beretta PX4 Storm (Because you know they will one day be the best thing out there). Also, in the future we will finally figure out that the best camo for our soldiers is Black.

But don’t let me making fun of the gear take away from the quality and entertainment of the movie. Their goal is to get everyone excited about the release of the game, and I believe it will do just that.

Larry Vickers: The Real Guns of “Medal of Honor: Warfighter” | Video

May 14, 2012

Larry Vickers has partnered with EA Games to show off some of the firearms and gear that will be seen in EA’s upcoming game, Medal of Honor: Warfighter. In his latest video, Vickers shows off the H&K MG36 automatic rifle and covers the operation and history of the German made military gun. Although, the G36c variant will be the model scene in the game; the MG36 is similar enough to learn about it’s operation. The video is very well produced in typical Vickers style. Check it out “Holmes”.

Revision Military Now Shipping the Batlskin Modular Head Protection System

May 5, 2012

Revision Military has been testing their Batlskin Modular Head Protection System (MHPS) for sometime now and it is finally ready to ship to law enforcement and military personnel. The MHPS is compatible with ACH helmets and can be purchased as an entire system or by individual pieces. The purpose of the Batlskin system is to provide trauma protection to the wearers face whether that trauma be blunt force, blast, or ballistic. Although the ACH helmet can protect your head from many different types of trauma the wearers face is exposed to all threats. The concept was not first realized by Revision, but they stepped up to the plate quickly and have worked vary hard for an easy to deploy system that seems to work very well.

Although many law enforcement agencies around the US are strapped for cash, officer safety is of the highest importance. Most all entry teams today use some sort of protective ballistic helmet and most use the ACH style. Although, like the ACH the Batlskin is not made to defeat ballistic threats from most rifles, it does offer some ballistic protection and will be very useful for narcotic teams whose entries may be meth labs or other potentially explosive environments. The system can be configured in a variety of ways to to meet the needs of the specific mission and is compatible with most types of night vision gear currently in use. The price of the system is $849.97, but individual parts are less. Colors that are available are Black, Foliage Green and Tan. Sizes Medium and Large are available now and Small and Extra Large will be available next month. It is currently ONLY available to military and law enforcement personnel but Revision said they will address civilian interest in the next few months. I’m sure we will see the weekend warriors wearing them by early next year, but hopefully we will see local tactical teams utilizing it far earlier.

BCM Carbine Video

April 30, 2012

This is a well produced video of the history of the carbine rifle used in the US Military. It shows off some of BCM’s products such as their new Mid-length gas system model and a mysterious BCM Comp which can be seen in the video. Travis Haley makes a welcomed appearance to make it even more exceptional. Bravo to BCM for some fine marketing material.

Silver Shadow Double Barrel Gilboa?

April 27, 2012

Israeli firearms manufacturer, Silver Shadow, will be releasing a new member of its Gilboa line with a double barrel. The Gilboa is a AR-15 based weapon system  that exchanges the buffer tube and spring for a spring mounted above the action and bolt, similar to the ZM Weapons LR-300. This allows a shorter profile for the firearm and the ability to add a side folding stock. The new double barrel AR will be shown off at the Eurosatory 2012 weapons trade show in June. I’ll be interested in seeing better quality pictures and more information about this rifle.

Sneak Peak of the NEW Colt M2012

April 13, 2012

Colt, after a long period of ignoring the commercial market and failing to modernize and develop their other product lines, has had a change of heart the last few years releasing more and more products for both the military and civilian markets. Here is a sneak peak of one of those new projects, the Colt M2012. Taking a page out of Remington Military’s handbook, the M2012 definitely has a striking resemblance to Remy’s XM2010 which was adopted by the US military.

Some will snicker at a copy cat product line, but it is still exciting to see an old American company getting back into the game and releasing new products. Hopefully, we will see many of these on the commercial market. $3799 is definitely not cheap, but not out of the realm of possibility for some.
