NEW Para USA PXT Tactical 14.45

May 4, 2011

Para USA has released a new tactical model in their PXT line of 1911 pistols. The new PXT Tactical 14.45 is a 14+1 round railed 1911 that is aimed at the tactical user. The PXT Tactical includes Ed Brown’s match grade barrel bushing, slide stop and mainspring housing. It also includes a huge Dawson Precision magazine well to cut down on reloading mistakes and speed up the reloading process. The trigger set is not the stock run of the mill parts as other Para USA models, and instead includes a Cylinder and Slide Tactical II hammer, sear and disconnector. Finally, the Para doesn’t want you to run out of ammunition at an inopportune time and has included 5 fourteen round magazines in the package.

Normally, I don’t pay much attention to Para USA’s pistols except for project ideas, but the PXT Tactical and it’s list of high quality third party manufactured parts has caught my eye. Cylinder and Slide matched trigger sets come out of the box very crisp even in a drop in configuration. Although it carries the name Tactical, this model will make a great competition, range, or home defense gun right out of the box.

Glock Factory Threaded Barrels

April 19, 2011

Advanced Armament Corporation had made it known that one of the larger firearm and sporting good distributors, Acusport, is carrying Glock factory threaded barrels. Although, in California it is illegal to add a threaded barrel to a pistol, in most other states individuals are free to do so and what would be better than to add an AAC Suppressor to your Glock 19 or 21? The initial run of barrels will be for the Glock 19 in M13.5x1LH and the Glock 21 threaded M16x1LH.

It seems that the public is starting to consider the practical application suppressors for practical home defense. Shooting a firearm indoors without hearing protection is painful and can cause permanent hearing loss. When there is a stranger in your home and is trying to hurt you and your loved ones, putting in ear plugs is not an option. A suppressed Glock 19 with night sights by your bedside would be a great hearing safe home defense tool.

More states are passing laws allowing suppressor ownership and is good to see that the distributor community has noticed this and is carrying more products to be delivered to their dealers. As Acusport is one of our main distributors, you will most likely find this product being sold in our web store which will be coming very soon. Acusport is a distributor and will only sell products to licensed dealers and not the general public.

Ruger Announces the SR1911

April 18, 2011

Ruger has announced the SR1911 to the public. Ruger has been able to include many of the sought after features of the modern 1911 while retaining a low price point of $799.00. The slide and barrel are made from the same bar stock and machined on the same CNC. According to Ruger this improves the accuracy of the firearm. Also, a surprise is that Ruger decided to include a series 70 style action! Safety is assured with the series 70 system by the inclusion of a titanium firing pin. The titanium firing pin lacks the mass to overcome the spring pressure if the firearm is dropped. The SR1911 is a fine package including a lowered and flared ejection port, oversized magazine release, Novak sights, skeletonized trigger and low mass hammer, extended thumb safety, oversized grip safety, and inspection port for viewing the chamber.

Ruger’s NEW SR1911 carries all the needed features with a price tag similar to imported firearms. We are happy to see another American 1911 and cannot wait to put some rounds through one for a full review.

Taurus CT Carbine

April 18, 2011

The Firearm Blog has posted this great picture of the Taurus CT carbine from LAAD ’11 Expo in Brazil. This model looks vastly different from the one I saw at Shot 2011 and will be imported into the US. The model seen at Shot this year had a rather unattractive thumbhole stock and lacked the continuous forearm quad rail. Noticeable on the non imported model is the Scar like stock and AR style pistol grip. The once boring imported rifle suddenly has a more meaningful appearance and might just be worthy of a few more gun safes than before. Let us hope that Taurus will make these accessories available on the consumer market, so those looking for a pistol caliber home defense rifle can have a more useful rifle.

Here is a look at the US version:

NEW Ohio Ordnance Works M240 SLR

April 18, 2011

There are those of us that have dreamed of owning our very own FNH M240, but have never had the opportunity of ownership let alone having the pleasure of firing its belt felt magic. Ohio Ordnance Works has released a civilian legal semi automatic copy of the famous FNH machine gun. The M240-SLR (Self Loading Rifle) does carry the same dimensions of its military cousin and can take advantage of any M240 mounting platform out there. Although the appearance and dimensions are the same, the internals are not and the bolt and trigger groups are not compatible. Also, another difference is that the Ohio Ordnance model fires from a closed bolt. Although, this may be disappointing for some, the rifle is still 100% reliable in rapid fire testing according to the manufacturer. Although the gun weighs in at a hefty 24.2 pounds, the real heft is the MSRP of $13,500.

Here are the stats:

Specifications

Caliber: 7.62 x 51mm
Finish: Phosphate
Operation: Closed Bolt, Semi-Automatic
Feed Mechanism: M-13 Link
Weight: Empty24.2 pounds
Length: Overall 47.5 inches with flash hider
Barrel: 4 Grooves with a uniform right hand twist, one turn in 12 inches
Barrel Length: 20 inches
Sights: Open, Adjustable Iron
