The Econo-Can Suppressor
April 23, 2012
A few friends have been asking a lot of questions concerning the legality of suppressors. Regretfully, California does not allow civilian ownership of suppressors, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the US is the same. Most states allow for the possession of them as long as the appropriate Federal paperwork is done. The only real drawback to suppressor ownership is the cost. Not only do you have to purchase the “can” which can be rather expensive, you also have to purchase the federal tax stamp as well. For many this is too expensive for just a toy in the safe.
American Specialty Ammo has come up with an innovative way to reduce the cost for those looking for a fun way to suppress their .22LR pistol or rifle. The “Econo-Can” is an adapter which is considered a suppressor by the ATF and must be registered as such. The adapter uses oil filters as the expansion chamber and are easily threaded to the end of the “Econo-Can” adapter. The “Econo-Can” is threaded to your firearm via 1/2x28mm threads. With the Econo-Can adapter retailing at only $55 and oil filters being very inexpensive the largest expense is the Federal tax stamp which is $200.
